Department of Focused Inquiry
The Department of Focused Inquiry offers small, seminar-style classes for first- and second-year students as part of the VCU General Education Program. Focused Inquiry faculty are dedicated to engaging students in big interdisciplinary questions before those students become advanced thinkers in their own fields. All of Focused Inquiry courses are designed to cultivate curiosity through a rigorous, process-oriented shared curriculum. As Foundations of Learning courses, UNIV 111, 112 and 200 provide students with core competency skills necessary for academic success: communicative fluency, ethical reasoning, global and cultural responsiveness, information literacy and problem solving.
