Turn Your Experience Into College Credit
At University College, we believe learning happens everywhere — not just in classrooms. Our Credit for Prior Learning opportunity allows eligible students to transform professional, military, volunteer, or other real-world experiences into academic credit toward their degree.
Who is Credit For Prior Learning For?
This opportunity is designed for nontraditional and returning students who are admitted to the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) program and bring significant work, leadership, or life experience to their educational journey.
What You Gain
Through the Credit For Prior Learning process, students can earn one to six upper-level elective credits — helping them complete their degree faster, reduce tuition costs, and validate the skills and knowledge they've built outside of traditional higher education.
How Credit For Prior Learning Works
- Students must first declare the B.I.S. major.
- After declaration, students enroll in IDST 452, a portfolio development course that guides them in documenting and reflecting on their prior learning experiences.
- Students then submit their portfolio to an interdisciplinary faculty panel for review.
- If approved, students receive additional credits by enrolling in IDST 455.
