Interdisciplinary Studies Online

Have you have enrolled as an online student? 

This means that you will have limited menu options in your customizable pathways. Online only students can choose from the following options to customize and build their pathway:

Some examples of these how these focus areas combine are: 

  • “Business Communications,” combining general business and media studies

  • “Computer Fundamentals for the Business World,” combining general business and fundamentals of computing

  • “Communications & Computing,” combining media studies & fundamentals of computing

  • “Strategic Communications,” combining marketing insights and media studies

  • “Health Communications,” combining health services and media studies

  • “Health Computing,” combining health services and fundamentals of computing

After the text that is already there please add:

You may also be able to combine transfer credits with courses in one of the areas listed above to build your IDS degree. 

Please note: while we are always working on expanding options, the areas listed  in red above are currently the only subject areas that are available fully online. No other subject areas are available as part of the online IDS program. Also, if you are interested in any of our pre-professional health minors/coursework (example: pre-medicine, pre-dentistry) these are not available as part of an online degree.

Online IDS Advising

New, first-year online students, as well as new transfer students with less than 60 earned credits meet with Kailee Valenti the Assistant Director of Online Student Success. She can be reached at valentikp@vcu.edu 

Online transfer students with 60 or more earned credits meet with the IDS advising team.
