New Student Orientation

Welcome to Virginia Commonwealth University!

It is our pleasure to invite you to New Student Orientation at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Orientation is a required program and serves as your formal introduction to all that VCU has to offer. We encourage you to ask questions, actively participate, find new friends and learn what will be expected of you as a member of the VCU community while you spend time with us during your Orientation experience.  You have made a wonderful choice to attend VCU and are on your way to an exciting collegiate experience full of academic opportunity and personal growth.  We look forward to meeting you!

Orientation registration for admitted students who will start classes in the spring of 2015 is not yet open.  We anticipate that registration will be open in mid-October.

Before you can register, you must pay your tuition deposit to the VCU Office of Admissions which indicates that you accept the offer of admission.  If you have recently submitted your tuition deposit and are unable to register online for Orientation, please check back again within 24-48 hours to allow for processing time.  Click HERE to pay your deposit online by credit card. If you have a waiver for the deposit (financial aid, scholarship award, etc.), you must submit a Response Form indicating that you accept the offer of admission to the VCU Office of Admissions.  You may verify your enrollment status with the Office of Admissions at (804) 828-1222 or toll-free at (800) 841-3638.

  • Faculty and staff will expose you to campus resources and answer your burning questions.
  • Time with your Orientation Team (O-Team) will help you make friends and maybe find a roommate.
  • You will participate in your first VCU tradition and become an official Ram!

Students admitted to VCU for the fall semester will attend New Student Orientation during the summer prior to the start of classes.  Students admitted to VCU for the spring semester will attend New Student Orientation during the winter prior to the start of classes in January.  When you sign in to the Orientation registration website, you will see the dates available for your major.  Please review your calendar prior to making a reservation. Several dates are available, but you should register as soon as possible as each session is limited to a certain number of participants and seats fill up fast!  After completing your online reservation and payment, you will receive a confirmation email identifying your secured date and providing additional program information such as arrival time, where to park and what to bring with you. Please do not make travel plans until you receive final confirmation of your reserved date.

If you do not see a date online that you are able to attend, please contact our office at (804) 828-3700 to see if we have any other options for you.

The schedule for Orientation is determined by your Orientation date and your status as a first-year or transfer student.  You will receive information about when to arrive on campus and the duration of your Orientation when you register for Orientation.  A detailed schedule of events will be provided upon your arrival to Orientation.  A tentative schedule of events for each program may be found by clicking your program below.

Parent and Family Orientation

Parents and family members continue to play a role of the utmost importance in their college students’ development and education. VCU believes the collegiate experience represents a collaboration involving the student, the family of the student and the faculty and staff of the university. We hope that by taking advantage of the programs designed specifically for parents and family members during orientation, you will become better informed about the university’s academic programs, policies, facilities and services while also learning how you can have a successful transition at this new stage of life.

Online reservations with payment are required. The fee paid upon making a reservation is non-refundable.
